Pie of Life

Pie of Life

 Tried to swallow the pie, almost greedily, whole.

Not what I had seen;

Not what I’d been told.

Thought, “If good with one bite

surely whole’s … ‘Outta sight!’

More simply put it'll be:

'Dynamite!'”

The experience,

immediately, I found,

almost took me out.

Placed me cold in the ground.

“Painful!  Can’t swallow!”

Choking. . . Can’t holler.

A hard slap on the back,
ultimately, saved my life.

*

Did I curse the hand for its degree of force?

No, I instantly Thanked the new friend,

as a matter of course.

Though walking by—a stranger, indeed,

He knew what I needed. . .

Assistance.

His admonition in future I heeded.

 “Enjoy the pie, guy!”

Enjoy it you should. . .

Just one bite at a time;

 For Only

This Way

Is
Good.”
